Pros: The UI is super easy to create a database, template, landing page, and even a web form.
Cons: Nothing coming to mind.

Our group has had a superb experience with Silverpop from day one!

While interviewing a handful of ESPs two years ago to determine who could help take our email program to the next level, Silverpop assembled a team that met with us on several occasions in an effort to learn every detail of our current situation, our vision, and near term objectives. Based on these in-depth meetings we had even before a contract was signed, I knew they were sincerely looking to provide a solution rather than simply deliver a product.

Our Account Manager (Relationship Manager) is second to none and was a major factor in our decision to sign with Silverpop. Not only that, she continues to be a major reason for entering a third year together. Our Account Manager is highly attentive and works to stay abreast of our program. If a question or concern is raised, she works quickly to understand the situation and put together a team to help address or resolve the issue as soon as possible.

The User Interface is wonderfully simple to use and highly intuitive. Not only can we easily create a database or template, but the fact that we can create landing pages and web forms within minutes is fantastic and has become very handy in a few situations. Silverpop's application combined with the use of Relational Tables has also allowed us to reduce our production time to create our monthly newsletter by 60%. This newfound time has allowed us to become more strategic with our program and provided the opportunity to create several enhancements to benefit our customers and make our program even more successful.

Additional features that we have found useful include Share-to-Social and Send Time Optimization. The Share-To-Social tool has allowed us to increase awareness of our Programs significantly and at no additional cost and little extra effort. And the Send Time Optimization feature is great for messages where we can deliver the email at the time the recipient is most likely to give us their full attention - which is important these days when everyone's life is so busy!

Silverpop's Custom Integration Services team has been another great resource for us to develop elements of our program that are beyond our capabilities. They helped us build the back end of our newsletter using Relational Tables, built out and refined our registration forms, and are currently integrating our email and mobile database. I have found this service to be both cost effective and timely.

Last, I will close with Silverpop's reporting tools which have become very useful to me. Not only can I pull single and multiple mailing reports to review messages, but I can create a custom report that is automatically generated and emailed to me daily, weekly, or monthly. Each Sunday, I get a report of the previous week's mailings that I can review and share with my VP on Monday morning.

Pros: The platform is so comprehnsive that you can do everything you would ever need to with an ESP
Cons: The sheer scale of the platform. There are a LOT of features to take advantage of

Having used a number of lower tier ESP's over the years, I find the step up to Silverpop's platform a delight. The platform is powerful enough to support all the email activity that I want to undertake, but with a UI that makes the complexity of the platform greatly simplified. I can have no complaints with the Account Management and have found account managers, trainers and support to be helpful, responsive and insightful.

Pros: Silverpop allows marketers to innovate quickly and self-sufficiently. There isn't much it can't do.
Cons: Can be hard to keep up with the new releases and take advantage of all the new functionality offered

As a 'power-user' of the Silverpop tool for nearly 7 years now, I continue to be impressed with the core functionality of the product and their continued commitment to innovation. Silverpop distinguishes itself from other ESPs in that if focuses not only on new functionality but shows a strong commitment to improving small details in its existing tool in direct response to customer feedback. I've used a minimum of 8 other tools and, at times, used those tools in conjunction with Silverpop. No other ESP I've used provides the same level of flexibility in the design and architecture of programs.

I've used the tool in two different organizations, one with 28 Orgs and the other with 10 and averaged between 50-200 deployments per week with sends that range for 50-10 Million. In those 7 years, I've experienced uptime and consistent service in all but 3 days - a phenomenal record considering the 8 or so other vendors I've worked with that routinely suffer from (unannounced) send delays and failures. In fact, the first service interruption - though brief- was taken so seriously that the CEO of the company called me personally to describe what happened and the steps being taken to ensure it would never happen again. It didn't.

As a data-minded user, what impresses me most about Silverpop is that it is the only ESP that was built for a true data-marketer who wants to be very hands-on and manipulate, segment, rearrange their data right there in the UI. I can easily say that I've pushed the boundaries of what an ESP is meant to do and the Silverpop tool has all but replaced my need to use Access and dramatically reduced my dependence on external data-services support. In that sense, it is a one stop shop which makes it easy to rely on relational tables, complex behavioral queries and advanced data value manipulation to identify core customer segments without the need to import/export or rely on external groups. This capability speeds the time-to-send tremendously and has allowed us to build much more responsive and relevant programs.

Silverpop has also done a tremendous job of releasing functionality that I actually use. While other ESPs focus on bells-and-whistles that allure, I'd venture to say that many of them never end up getting used. As I recall, SP was the first to offer a WYSIWYG feature that actually worked and loaded consistently, the first to have a content library that was easy to navigate, the first to offer Share to Social and the ability to report on it. These are just a few of the examples that demonstrate to me that Silverpop development is focused on what customers actually need and would use. As a former member of their Customer Council, I can say firsthand that they take the process of client feedback very seriously and consider it a critical step in product development.

Support has traditionally been great and, unlike some of their competitors, Silverpop does a great job of tracking and following up on tickets. Nearly anyone you get on the other end of the line can walk you through a few options for solving your issues and they are competent enough to be able to strategize with you on-the-spot as to the best way to execute a new concept. I'll often call and say, "Here is what I want to do, is this possible and how?" and I'll get a response I might otherwise pay a consultant for that details how I might leverage dynamic content over queries or personalization over multiple-versions. Their support team speaks the marketing language as well as the technical- which can make a huge difference when trying to build an intelligent program.

Lastly, I'd say that Silverpop has one of the coolest deliverability teams in that they don't hide behind deliverability as some elusive black box you have to crack or hype up relationships with the ISPs. They take the time to actually educate their customers on what needs to be done to get in and stay in the inbox - even when that news is sometimes hard to hear. I learned more from my engagements with Silverpop deliverability than I have speaking to any other 'expert' on the topic and gained the tools I needed to stay ahead of the deliverability pitfalls by taking their very sounds advice (thank you Chris Arrendale).

Long story short, while all ESPs have their hiccups, Silverpop has been a solid partner for several years and their commitment to customers as marketers is apparent. They may not be the right fit for every organization but they have been pivotal in the execution of the majority of programs I've worked on over the last several years and would always be on my shortlist of vendors to consider.

Pros: Marketing Automation, Easy Reporting,
Cons: Bugs everywhere! List management, Customer service is a joke

We've been using Silverpop Engage B2B for about two years now and we loved the idea of easily setting up automated campaigns (drag and drop interface), the reporting appears clean and easy to use...Setting up a mailing is way easier than our previous ESP (Cheetahmail). On the outside everything looks great, but once you get under the hood (including...errr especially their new Engage 8) you find Error prompt after error prompt. Silverpop is the buggiest software I've every worked with and cannot wait for the day that I no longer have to. Customer support is terrible! They always assume you don't know what you're talking about..."Sorry pal, if it was that easy, I wouldn't have submitted a ticket in the first place."

If you're serious about Email marketing--Silverpop boasts the features you crave, but the agony of working in their platform will make you regret your buying decision daily.

Pros: The expert help behind the scenes
Cons: occasinal system glitch

I've been using Silverpop for over 4 years. I've used a handful of other ESPs. Weighing everything together, Silverpop offers a fantastic product with more features, expertise and excellent service. The features they offer allow you to expand the sophistication of your program to enhance, optimize and make the most of your email marketing. The user interface is very easy to navigate, allowing you to get campaigns complete, manage your database and get the reports you need in a very easy and intuitive manner.
